Gunman identified in deadly Virginia Tech shooting

The gunman responsible for the shooting rampage at Virginia Tech, the deadliest in U.S. history, has been identified as Cho Seung-Hui -- a South Korean male enrolled at the school.
"He was a 23-year-old South Korean here in the U.S. as a resident alien," Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum told reporters Tuesday. "Cho was enrolled as an undergraduate student in his senior year as an English major at Virginia Tech."
Flinchum said Cho was living on campus.
"A nine-millimetre handgun and a 22-calibre handgun were recovered from Norris Hall," said Flinchum.
There were two separate shootings on the school's campus Monday.
In the first shooting, a man and woman were killed at the West Ambler Johnston co-ed residence at about 7:15 a.m. local time. The dormitory houses 895 people.
In the second, 30 people were killed at Norris Hall, followed by Cho who shot himself in the head.
Flinchum said that one of the guns found at the second shooting location was used in the first shooting.
Colonel Steve Flaherty, superintendent of the Virginia State Police, said it was "certainly reasonable to assume that Cho was the shooter in both cases.'' However, he said police could not confirm that detail.
Flaherty did say that there was no evidence to suggest a second shooter.
